COMMUTERS has been left stranded since Monday when iKhwezi bus drivers went on strike following a dispute with management about the hiring of a new ticket examiner and three general workers.
The most affected areas were eSikhaleni, Dlangezwa, Port Dunford and Ngwelezana.
Community members were not happy with the situation, as instead of using their bus paid for bus tickets, they had to spend extra cash to travel by taxis.
Most commuters also arrive late for work
Another issue is that bus drivers are not satisfied with a salary increase of R150 per week.
‘The bus strike is posing a big challenge for taxi operators who have to absorb the number of extra commuters needing transport to their places of work, and to school,’said SANTACO King Cetshwayo regional Chairperson, Sibusiso Nzuza .
Many school principals phoned and asked taxi drivers to help the learners with transport to school.
At the time of going to print the strike was still ongoing.
