Councillor makes a U-turn
Nxumalo submitted his withdrawal letter to the Umhlabuyalingana Municipality Speaker on Monday following pressure from his community to stay on

UMHLABUYALINGANA Ward 7 Councillor Simon Nxumalo has withdrawn his resignation.
Nxumalo submitted his withdrawal letter to the Umhlabuyalingana Municipality Speaker on Monday following pressure from his community to stay on.
Nxumalo resigned after accusing the IFP of sidelining him.
‘I had a meeting with the IFP leadership in Mhlabuyalingana and we resolve our differences. I am committed to serving the community and opted to reverse my resignation,’ Nxumalo said, pointing out that the community threatened not to vote in the by-election or next year’s national general election if he was forced out.

Speaker Busi Tembe confirmed that Nxumalo has withdrawn his resignation.
‘I received a letter from him on Monday and will officially inform other councillors about this at the next Council meeting.
‘I don’t foresee any problems that could prevent him from retaining his position,’ said Tembe.
IFP caucus leader Zakhele Mhlongo said Tembe has informed him about the latest development.
