Minimum wage increases for retail an wholesale sectors

Millions of workers in the wholesale and retail sectors are set to receive minimum wage increases of 5,1% and 6,6% as per the sectoral determination

MILLIONS of workers in the wholesale and retail sectors are set to receive minimum wage increases of 5,1% and 6,6% as per the sectoral determination from 1 February the Department of Labour announced on Wednesday.

The department said the new wages apply to various categories of workers such as cashiers, general assistants, clerks, sales persons, shop assistants, displayers, forklift operators, security guards, merchandisers, supervisors and trainee managers.

Workers in ‘Area A’ will receive a minimum increase of 5.1 percent.

Local areas in this category include uMhlathuze and Mtubatuba.

Those workers in Area B will receive a 6.6 percent increase.
