TWO men were shot and seriously wounded during a service delivery protest at Ntuze Reserve outside Mtunzini in the early hours of Monday morning.

According to police, residents marching between the community hall and the reserve’s crossroads at 1:30am heard a loud gunshot and found a man with a gunshot wound to his head.

He was rushed to a nearby clinic and later transferred to Chief Albert Luthuli Hospital in Durban.

The motive for the shooting is still unknown and his name has not yet been released.

Reports suggest the community protest was related to the lack of water supply in the area.

‘Residents told police the shooter was not part of the protesting crowd and the bullet came out of nowhere,’ said Mtunzini police’s Colonel Mthembu.

While police were still trying to end the protest, they spotted another wounded man from the area.

He was taken to the Vulindlela Clinic and later released.

Two cases of attempted murder have been opened at the Mtunzini police station.
