Richards Bay FC clawed apart by Eagles

NRB's Nedbank Cup Last 32 fixture against Bloemfontein Young Tigers has been scheduled for 6 February at the uMhlathuze Stadium, kick-off 3pm

RICHARDS Bay FC, hoping to continue their impressive run of three successive NFD league victories, were instead recipients of a resounding 5-2 thumping away to Royal Eagles on Saturday.

Their quest was doomed early in the game when inspirational captain and goalkeeper Xolani Ngcobo was given a red card, meaning the NRB boys had to play for the remainder of the encounter with only ten men.

It also meant having to pull one outfield player off the pitch to enable a new stopper to replace Ngcobo, and hosts made the most of the vacant space.

Not even a brace by Katleho Maphatha was enough to spare Richards Bay FC from a huge defeat

Jean Lociuto’s men held the score to 1-2 at the break but inevitably had to tire later in the game under the increased workload, to suffer their worst defeat of the season.

Much to their credit, Richards Bay were still able to score two goals, both to Katleho Maphathe, who also scored off the bench last week.

A lot of soul-searching, analysis and preparation will have to be done before their upcoming fixture next weekend against log leaders Highlands Park.
