Top King Cetshwayo matric achievers celebrate

Top performing matric learners acknowledged for excellent results

MOTIVATING the district’s top five matric learners to continue on their path of success, King Cetshwayo District Mayor Nonhle Mkhulisi hosted an intimate breakfast at the Protea Hotel Waterfront last week to celebrate with the young achievers.

Mkhulisi, a former educator herself, wanted to meet and greet the top performers -Sukoluhle Ngwane (first – eShowe High School), Asphile Ntuli (overall second – Velangaye High), Lethukuthula Khumalo (overall third – Bizimali High), Londeka Ntshembeni (overall fourth- Dlangezwa High) and Mareli Swart (overall fifth – Empangeni High) as well as their families and school principals.

Impressed by the district’s improving matric results, Mkhulisi said it was important to celebrate these successes and show a positive attitude towards the excellent work being done by the Department of Education, educators and parents.

‘This year there were no schools that had a zero percent pass rate in the district, and the results in our former disadvantaged and rural schools also increased significantly.

‘For those that did not make it last year, it is up to us to motivate them that there is still life after failure and they can try again.

‘For those who have completed their studies and have not found work yet, do not just sit at home. Go out and volunteer and get involved in society and help others while you are waiting,’ she said.

District Director of Education David Chonco said to deliver good results depend on dedicated children, teachers and officials.

‘We are happy with the quality of results and especially the increase in bachelor and diploma passes.

The results serve as proof of the commitment of our teachers.

‘Our goal is for an 80% pass rate and then aiming towards 100%,’ said Chonco.
