Large medal haul for King Cetshwayo chess team
Zululand chess players show their mettle
THE King Cetshwayo chess team displayed all the right moves to make their way to the podium at the 2017 South Africa Junior Chess Championships held in Boksburg in the first week of January.
Both the U10 and U12A teams took gold, with the U16 team claiming silver.
Results
• U10 team won gold in the C section – Saien Biyela (Grantham Park Primary), Biyela Vuyiswa (Phalane Primary), Paityn Reddy (Richards Bay Primary), Nolen Reddy (Richards Bay Christian School), Kirthan Naidoo (Richards Bay Christian School), Philasande Ntombela (Brackenham Primary), Jesse Wynne (Vendenvlei Primary), Rorisand Mabaso (Brackenham Primary), Londeka Sibiya (Felixton College) and Mlangazeli Sibiya (Felixton College).
• U10 Board prize winners – Saien Segadevan, Kirthan Naidoo and Mlangazeli Sibiya.
• U12A team won gold in the D section – Arya Singh (Richards Bay Christian School), Mvuselelo Zulu (Felixton College), Jordan Naicker (Richards Bay Primary), Ayanda Shangase (Brackenham Primary), V Ngcobo, (Heuwelland Primary), Suveshen Naidoo (Brackenham Primary), Keane Reddy (Richards Bay Primary), Mackenzie Gouws (Richards Bay Christian School), Olwethu Chili (Brackenham Primary) and Mbalenhle Buthelezi (Richards Bay Christian School).
• U12 Board prize winners – Arya Singh, Mvuselelo Zulu and Suveshan Naidoo.
• U14 Board prize winner – Simphiwe Majozi
• U16 team won silver in the C section – Nikash Baboolal (Richards Bay High), Nkululeko Dumakude (Tholokuhle High), Kiron Poonan (Richards Bay Christian School), Yadeel Ramkilowan (Empangeni High), Kelvin Aidan (Richards Bay High), Musa Mqaise (John Ross College), Liam Moonsamy (Richards Bay Christian School), Nqobani Shoba (Langalibomvu Primary), Paul Munien (Richards Bay Christian School) and Zhime Ntombela (Felixton College).
