New hospital opens its doors
As part of the open day, the hospital offered the public with free glucose, cholesterol and blood pressure tests
THE Zululand public were thrilled to finally get a glimpse of what the new Melomed Hospital at the John Ross Eco Junction has to offer on Friday during an official open day.
As part of the open day, the hospital offered the public with free glucose, cholesterol and blood pressure tests.

Speaking to the ZO, Melomed Acting Hospital Manager, Randal Pedro, said the hospital has three pregnant mothers booked in for today (Monday), the official opening date.

New to the region and the City of uMhlathuze, the hospital offers 194 beds, which include a 10-bed intensive care unit, 12-bed high care unit, four operating theatres, a dedicated obstetric and gynaecology theatre situated in the maternity ward, a dedicated endoscopy suite and a 24-hour emergency unit.
The hospital will offer a multidisciplinary service including, among others, the following disciplines:
