‘A’ to the power of 59!

The school’s matriculants racked up a total of 59 As, with their top student, Mikhail Singh, making it into the top one percent of the country after scoring eight distinctions

THE Felixton College campus was buzzing on Wednesday morning as the class of 2017 converged to celebrate an astronomically successful year.

The school’s matriculants racked up a total of 59 As, with their top student, Mikhail Singh, making it into the top one percent of the country after scoring eight distinctions.
Other top achievers included Thandolwethu Ntshangase, who scored six As – missing out on a
further three by just 1%.
‘I’m very happy and proud of my achievements and have my amazing teachers and parents to thank for their incredible support,’ she said.
She is preparing to begin her Bachelor of Accounting degree studies at Stellenbosch University, where she will focus on becoming a chartered accountant.

‘I have such a passion for maths and numbers.’
She says her formula for studying for the finals included focusing on time management, and setting a well-planned study timetable.
‘In matric, school comes first. You have to dedicate yourself and be disciplined about achieving your
goals,’ she said.
She achieved distinctions in accounting, Afrikaans, geography, life orientation, life sciences, maths,
physical science and advanced programme maths.
William Owen was delighted with his six distinctions for Afrikaans, dramatic arts, English, life orientation, maths and visual arts.
‘Our teachers really gave us their undivided love and support,’ he said.
‘I found maths to be my hardest paper and knew that I really had to knuckle down to get that A.’

‘Your support team is so important, and I’m excited to be setting off to DUT to study graphic design,’ he said.
Other notable achievers at Felixton College included Riccardo Polayya – five As in history, life orientation, life sciences, mathematics, physical sciences (with 78% for Afrikaans, 79% for
English and 79% for advanced programme maths, closely denying him a total of 8 As); Nombuyiselo
Mduli achieved four distinctions plus 77%, 78% and 77% for a further three subjects; and Tamsyn
Fish was delighted with her four distinctions.
‘We are absolutely thrilled with our 2017 class. Their hard work and dedication certainly paid off,’ said College Marketing Officer Debbie Lane.
