Relief for Mtubatuba taxi commuters
Mtubatuba and Richards Bay taxi associations have agreed to reduce taxi fares between the two towns and the route to KwaMbonambi
AFTER lengthy closed door discussions, the Mtubatuba and Richards Bay taxi associations have agreed to reduce taxi fares between the two towns and the route to KwaMbonambi.
The associations have already implemented their agreement and promised to keep taxi fares down for the whole year, depending on petrol price fluctuations.
Mtubatuba Taxi Association spokesman, Siphelele Mbatha, said both associations are happy with the decision.
‘We have been charging R60, but reduced this to R50 to ease the financial burden on our customers.’
Mbatha also announced that the taxi fare between Mtubatuba and KwaMbonambi has been reduced by R5 to R40.
‘We want to change the taxi industry and make it more accessible to especially poor people by ensuring that it remains affordable and friendly.
‘We also took a resolution to keep our clients safe. Most of the commuters have been raising issues about our drop-off zone at KwaMbonambi.
‘We have been dropping commuters off at the main road outside KwaMbonambi taxi rank, but that has been changed to the taxi rank itself’ said Mbatha.
