Struggling Ngwelezana families supported this Christmas

Most of the beneficiaries were senior citizens and child-headed households

HUNDREDS of struggling families were supported by the City of uMhlathuze, which provided them with Christmas groceries.

The identified residents were heading for a bleak festive season, as they had nothing to cook for their families on Christmas Day.

Most of the beneficiaries were senior citizens who support grandchildren, and child-headed households.

The groceries were handed to the beneficiaries by Deputy Mayor Slondile Mkhize at the Empangeni Civic Centre, and were obtained through donations from private companies.

One of the beneficiaries, Girl Nzuza (84) of Ngwelezana Township, supports 13 family members with her pension grant.

We were heading for a disastrous Christmas.

‘I thank the City of uMhlathuze for this life-saving gift,’ she said.
