NSRI issues spring tide warning
All beach users should exercise extreme caution during the spring tide, but bathers and shoreline anglers are most at risk
THE NSRI is urging extreme public caution around our region’s coastline, a warning in effect from today (Friday), for the following week.
This is because the full moon spring tide will peak on Tuesday, causing a higher tide than normal for the few days leading up to, as well as including, this peak.
‘High tide will be higher than normal and low tide lower than normal, resulting in rip currents being stronger than normal,’ said NSRI’s Craig Lambinon.

‘With this full moon spring tide now upon us, beach bathers and shoreline anglers are most at risk.’
The NSRI is urging all water users, including bathers, anglers, paddlers, sail boarders and boaters to exercise extreme caution in the coming days.
Lambinon has reiterated the need for beach bathers to swim only at beaches where lifeguards are on duty, only during lifeguard duty hours and always between the lifeguards’ red and yellow flags.
Children must always be under adult supervision both in and around the water.

Shoreline anglers, particularly those fishing along rocks, are most at risk as waves during spring tides engulf higher than normal.
‘Anglers should not turn their backs to the sea, and should be vigilant and cautious of the wave action as well as the two high and low tides each day.’
