Jan Mabuyakhulu still walks for the cause
Jan Mabuyakhulu once again took his anti-rape message to East Coasters
JAN Mabuyakhulu, Mtubatuba’s anti-rape and child abuse activist, rounded off his year with a walk from Scottburgh to Richards Bay to commemorate the 16 days of activism against women and child abuse campaign.
En route Mabuyakhulu stopped at various functions and spoke to all in attendance about the evils of rape and child abuse.
Among many venues and areas, Mabuyakhulu spoke to the residents of the notorious Glebelands Hostel in Umlazi, which has been the crime scene of many murders and much violence this year.
He also stopped in KwaMashu, Phoenix and Inanda, where he delivered his message to the masses.

‘Everyone who attended the meetings at which I spoke, took my message seriously and some people even joined in parts of my walk,’ said Mabuyakhulu.
‘I also stopped at Mandeni, which was the last place I spoke at before finishing my walk in Richards Bay, where I spoke at an event organised by the Department of Community Safety and Liaison.
‘The event was held because there have been many cases of child rape in the area.’
Mabuyakhulu began his walk on 28 November and arrived in Richards Bay last Tuesday where he was greeted by his wife Nokukhanya Mjadu and their children, Valentine and Luthando.
‘I support Jan with his walking because it’s for a good cause, but am always happy to have him back home again,’ said Nokukhanya.
Mabuyakhulu will rest up over Christmas before planning next year’s walks.
In 2011 he became an anti-rape and child abuse activist after two friends’ daughters were violently raped and murdered in Jozini.
Since then he has completed numerous walks in KZN and sometimes into other provinces, taking his message to the masses, both young and old.
