NFP embroiled in leadership squabble
King Cetshwayo region not invited to elective conferences
THE National Freedom Party’s King Cetshwayo branch says it does not support the newly elected provincial and national leadership as they were not given an opportunity to send representatives to the party’s elective conferences.
Local NFP co-coordinator Gqokokuhle Ngema said they are busy launching branches and were not informed about the electives conferences. As a result they cannot take the outcomes of these conferences seriously.
He insists they were not invited to the recent provincial elective conference in Newcastle and the national conference in Durban last weekend
‘Even Zanele kaMagwaza-Msibi as President was not informed, so we don’t recognise the new leadership. Some of these leaders do not have legitimate branch structures, so on what basis were they elected. Not all the regions have conducted their elective conferences,’ Ngema said.

Newly elected NFP national Chairperson Bhungu Gwala argued that everything was done above board and that the King Cetshwayo region was part of the conferences.
‘We now have to implement the resolutions we took at the national elective conference. We adhered to all policies and the constitution,’ said Gwala .
He explained that the conferences were coordinated jointly by provincial and national working committees which are legitimate structures within the NFP.
‘One of the resolutions was to recall some of our members deployed in parliament and legislature.
We have consulted our legal advisers to work on that resolution and await report-back so we can proceed with our work.
‘It is not our aim to ill-treat other members, but we want to ensure that we prepare for the 2019 general election,’ said Gwala.
However, NFP President spokesperson Canaan Mdletshe said Magwaza-Msibi made it clear that the two conferences were illegal.
‘The President was not aware of these conferences and was not part of them. She wants to assure NFP supporters that no one will be recalled from parliament,’ said Mdletshe.
