RICHARDS Bay High School’s Dezen Oosthuizen was crowned the 2017 Zululand Observer Supersport Let’s Play winner at the Supersport Let’s Play year-end function at Indaba Lodge on Tuesday.
The talented teenage golfer received the award after representing his province and country in golf this year, as well as being selected for the KZN Bokkieweek rugby team.
The Supersport initiative aims to promote active and healthy lifestyles among the youth.
This platform allows athletes to showcase their skills and abilities and provides motivation to keep training hard and working towards individual goals.
Felixton College’s Kayla Jansen claiming second spot, with schoolmate Megan Joubert in third place.
The programme was activated when physical education had almost been entirely eliminated from the school curriculum.
Currently 17% of children are overweight, which leads to diseases such as obesity and diabetes.
