Calls for litter clampdown

Littering in Mtubatuba has been an ongoing problem for many years

MTUBATUBA residents and congregants of the St John’s Church have had enough of the piles of rubbish at the entrance to the church every Sunday morning.

Beer bottles, take-away food boxes and other rubbish are a greeting to churchgoers, apparently remnants of the weekend’s parties.

‘It is sometimes much worse than it appears in the photos, and no effort is made by the litterers to put their rubbish in a nearby bin,’ said a fed-up resident.

She has called on Mtubatuba Municipality to clamp down on drinking in public, street parties and associated littering in the area.

The municipality could not be reached for comment.
