STRONG winds battered Zululand yesterday evening causing residents to batten down the hatches.
People took to Facebook to ‘talk’ about damage to their homes and cars.
Charmaine Seamark – ‘Our solar panels were ripped off the roof and a table and chairs blew off the balcony’.
Suzette Rautenbach – ‘Our stables roof almost blew off.’
Julie Deeves – ‘The wind caused a thick branch from a tree outside my property to fall on my wall, which broke my electric fence and left a crack and a chunk in the wall.’
Yolanda Yolla du Plessis – ‘In Felixton, our trampoline went flying from one end of the yard to the other, even the poles bent. It was scary.’
Bongani Nhleko – ‘My car windscreen was damaged.’
Samantha Gray – ‘Apparently the Bay Hospital’s ICU roof collapsed.’
Rumours regarding the Netcare The Bay Hospital’s roof collapsing were unfounded.
Some of the roof sheets were ripped loose, but were quickly replaced. A source close to the hospital said the management team used the incident as an exercise, to be prepared for the day they do face such an emergency.
Zululanders can expect temperatures in Empangeni to go up to 20 degrees with a 26km/h southerly wind blowing today. Richards Bay’s temperature is 19 degrees with a 29km/h wind
