Crime fighting forum established in Brackenham
Brackenham Community Police Forum revived
DESPITE the high incidence of crime in Brackenham, there was a poor turnout at the Community Police Forum (CPF) meeting on Wednesday evening to discuss crime and elect a new CPF sub-forum structure.
The suburb has been a target for house robberies, hijackings, motor vehicle thefts, residential burglaries and thefts out of and from vehicles as crime continuesto be a problem in the area.
Richards Bay CPF Chairperson, Robert Mbuyazi said Brackenham was the only suburb to have had the intervention of the Premier’s Office owing to the crime increase in the township.
‘Crime affects our community and people are now living in fear, so the residents must work closely with the police to find solutions.
‘Even though there was a poor attendance, the residents who are interested in fighting crime were present and we are happy that a CPF structure was elected and are eager to make a difference,’ said Mbuyazi.
Offering a hand of support was the Meerensee CPF with chairperson Corrie Pretorius pledging to help the new Brackenham CPF with any assistance they require.
‘Crime divides a community and we need to disrupt the crime in our communities and make it uncomfortable for criminals.
‘Drugs and the greenbelts are major concerns in our communities and we need to forge plans. As CPF members we must stay committed,’ said Pretorius.
