THE Zululand business fraternity, be it heavyweight corporates or small, medium and micro enterprise principals, can meet Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan in person on Monday.
Gordhan will attend a business breakfast hosted by the Zululand Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ZCCI) to present the implementation of the National Development Plan (NDP), as well as sharing his goals to alleviate the unemployment crisis. The meeting will be held at the Protea Hotel, The Richards at 8am for 8.30am.
The 2014 budget will also be under discussion at the much anticipated gathering.
‘Highly respected for his candour and the definitive manner in which he addresses the hard issues affecting the economy and financial stability of the country, we believe we have secured a speaker of the finest calibre for our members and the business community,’ says ZCCI Executive Manager, Charmayne Pountney.
‘In the turbulent South African business environment, Minister Gordhan has managed to juggle both the positive and negative factors affecting the economy in an effective manner, while resisting the need to increase revenue by preying on the taxpayers.
‘However, his task of balancing the books has been extremely difficult this year with the negative financial impact of labour action in the mining and other sectors and the performance of the rand.’
Pountney says the minister’s presentation will prove to be informative and provide the local business community a chance to pick his brain in a brief question and answer session.
As the sponsor of the event, the Technology Innovation Agency (TIA) will also present their programme on stimulating and consolidating technological innovation efforts to contribute to economic growth.
Audit firm PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) Director Omar Latiff will also share insights on global business trends.
