‘Peeping tom’ caught in the act in Richards Bay mall

After being detained by security guards, the man was arrested and a police case opened

A RICHARDS Bay resident yesterday (Thursday) took to social media to warn women and girls about her experiences in a fitting room of a popular Richards Bay shopping mall retailer.

Denize Samuel said she was browsing and shopping for clothes when she took some items to the fitting room.

‘I was standing in the fitting room and had already removed my clothes when I heard a strange noise in the next stall,’ she said.

‘When I walked into the fitting rooms, all the stalls were open and the shop was quiet, so the noise was obvious.

‘I got this strange feeling and when I looked up, I saw a man holding a small mirror over my stall door and was peeking into my stall.

‘I got such a fright that I slammed the door, shouted and grabbed my trousers to put them back on.’

Wanting to catch the man, Samuel said that when she opened her stall door to go out, she walked straight into the man.

‘Fortunately the security guard was nearby and, when I explained to the guard what had happened, the guard detained the man.’

Samuel said the police arrived and she opened a case of sexual harassment and invasion of privacy against the man.
