Local karateka fight for podium finishes

In the provincial competition, local karatekas brought home an impressive 30 trophies

LOCAL karatekas of the KSI North Coast Karate Academy brought home 30 trophies after 18 members competed at the annual KSI KZN Championships held at Cowen House in Pietermaritzburg.

This prestigious competition saw novice and elite karateka from all over the province participating.

The local club achieved the following results – Mri Myburgh (1st Kata), Charleen Smuts (1st Kumite and Kata), Marco Claase (1st Kumite, 1st Kata and 3rd Unison Kata), Jarryd van Zyl (2nd Kumite, 2nd Kata and 3rd Unison Kata), Jaeme Appel (2nd Kata and 1st Unison Kata), Frankie Hofmeyr (2nd Kumite, 1st kata and 1st Unison Kata), Benice Botha (1st Kumite, Kata and Unison Kata), Jane Strachan (3rd Kumite and 1st Kata), Kayla Hofmeyr (1st Kumite and 2nd Kata), Lihann de Koning (1st Kumite, 2nd Kata and 3rd Unison Kata), Michael Fourie (2nd Kumite), Zach du Toit (2nd Kumite and 3rd Kata), Paul Hofmeyr (3rd Kumite and 1st Kata), Hanno de Koning (2nd Kata), Tristan van Rooyen (3rd Kumite), Alexes Bester (1st Kumite and 2nd Kata) and Francois du Toit (3rd Kumite).

More accolades 
Karatekas Jarryd van Zyl, Benice Botha, Jane Strachan, Charleen Smuts and Alexes Bester also participated at the KSI Northern Region Championships held at Witts University in Johannesburg.

This event caters for both elite and novice karateka from all Northern regions of South Africa and neighboring countries.

The students achieved the following results – Benice Botha (1st Kata and 2nd Kumite), Charleen Smuts (1st Kata and 2nd Kumite), Jane Strachan (2nd Kumite) and Alexes Bester (2nd Kumite).
