MEC promotes peace in taxi industry
'Our department needs religious leaders to support this industry with prayers to stop the fighting, which has been ongoing since 2005, ' said Kaunda.
‘OUR aim as the department is to promote peace and stability in the taxi industry, especially here at Nongoma.’
These are the views from KZN MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Mxolisi Kaunda during the prayer for the KwaNongoma Taxi Industry at the Linduzulu last week, after years of in-fighting between the different taxi associations.
He also encouraged all taxi owners in the area to save the lives of their passengers by ending the fighting, especially over this coming festive season as so many community members will be making use of their taxis to travel to different parts of the country.
‘Our department needs religious leaders to support this industry with prayers to stop the fighting, which has been ongoing since 2005, ‘ said Kaunda.
‘We are going to deploy more police in this area to ensure the safety of learners and general members of the community using the taxis.’
Chairperson of the Nongoma Taxi Industry, Sputla Ngubane thanked the minister for the support of the department by assisting to bring peace to their industry and he also called on all community members to support their business.
He confirmed that this peace accord will assist the community, although so many lives have already been lost during this fighting.
His last word was to encourage all drivers of this association to be faithful in their business by respecting their passengers.
