Richards Bay NSRI goes green

The water tanks will be fitted with a pump and filter system to help the base become more self-sufficient

IN a bid to keep up with the current global trend of being more environmentally friendly and aware, NSRI Richards Bay Station 19 is taking steps to become more self-sufficient.

Thanks to the generous donation of two 10 000 litre vertical water tanks from South 32’s Maintenance South team, the Richards Bay base is one step closer to achieving their goal.

‘Our main effects are power and water, and we find ourselves constantly trying to balance taking care of our equipment and saving lives, but at the same time not seeming to be wasteful,’ said Brynn Gericke, NSRI Richards Bay crew member.

‘We intend to attach a pump and filter system to the water tanks and, in turn, be more self sufficient.

‘In addition to this, we are phasing in a new LED lighting system and have already converted our outboard motors from two stroke to four stroke engines.’

Grateful for the donation, NSRI members said the water tanks will go a long way to helping the base on its journey of going green.
