Breast cancer awareness day
With October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Dr Abraham encouraged patients to always remain positive in their journey because 'cancer can be beaten'
PREVENTION is better than cure.
That was the message from oncologist Dr Smitha Abraham, who hosted a breast cancer awareness day at the Richards Bay Medical Institute.
With October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Dr Abraham encouraged patients to always remain positive in their journey because ‘cancer can be beaten’.
She urged women to go for regular check ups and mammograms in order for the cancer to be detected early.
‘Mammograms can pick up a tumour before you can feel it. They usually say by the time you feel a lump it’s already two centimetres.
‘So the earlier you pick it up, the earlier we can treat it.
‘As I tell all my patients, you can all do this one day at a time. Believe that there is hope for a cure and be the hope.
‘Mothers, daughters, sisters, friends and family, together we can beat cancer,’ Dr Abraham said.
