MANY commuters lose or misplace their personal belongings while travelling in taxis.
Anything from bags to cellphones, wallets, keys, ID’s, drivers’ licenses and other personal items are left behind.
This week the eSikhawini Taxi Association (ETA) came up with a solution to ensure passengers recover their properties.
The association launched a Lost and Found campaign with the aim of reaching out to its clients.
‘Passengers leave things behind every day. Drivers drop them in our office but it becomes very difficult to find owners,’ said ETA rank manager Phillip Mdletshe.

‘The ETA came up with tags which people can use to label their items. There are different tags for keys and other belongs,’
The tags are mostly for key holders and other items like ID documents.
Commuters are pleaded to purchase them for less than R5 and write their names, addresses and contact numbers.
‘We have hundreds of unclaimed items because we don’t know who they belong to.
‘These tags will ensure that we know the owners and we can contact them immediately to fetch whatever they have left behind.
‘It is a terrible thing to lose something, especially our commuters who lose keys and have to go to the trouble of breaking into their home and spending more money to replace them. ‘We want to work together and for our clients to understand we have their best interest at heart,’ said Mdletshe.
Commuters who previously left belongings in a taxi can phone the association’s office on 035 7961137 or 079 1027295.
