DISABLED commuters will soon have easier access to public transport after the completion of the Lot 63 taxi rank in Empangeni.

Not only will the refurbished taxi rank be equipped with a wheelchair ramp, but it is also designed to be welcoming to all disabled people.

‘This walkabout is to ensure safety of all commuters and to check the upgrade of the facilities as well as promote safety of everyone on our roads,’ said Sithole-Moloi.

In support of the initiative was City of uMhlathuze Mayor, Cllr Mduduzi Mhlongo, Deputy Mayor, Cllr Slondile Mkhize and other regional leaders.

‘The annual October programme is dedicated towards achieving a reduction in road fatalities, thus embarking on aggressive road safety education,’ said Mhlongo.

‘KZN is one of the leading provinces when it comes to road accidents and fatalities. Many lives continue to be lost on provincial roads and most citizens are affected in one way or another.’

‘This is part of government taking a lead in campaigning for safety on the roads and in communities,’ said Mhlongo.

After the rank inspection, leaders proceeded to the N2 highway as well as inspected the eMpembeni road.

Both these roads are under construction prompted by the provincial and local leadership in ensuring safety of its people.
