The truck driver alleged the traffic lights were green for him and he was proceeding through the intersection when a bus travelling towards Empangeni along the R34 ran through the red light
ONE pedestrian was killed on Monday afternoon at R34 and Old Mtuba Road intersection in Empangeni after he was trapped underneath a truck, which was carrying gravel.
According to reports from the scene, the truck driver was traveling from Ngwelezana on the Old Mtuba Road when he approached the intersection.
The driver alleged the traffic lights were green for him and he was proceeding through the intersection when a bus travelling towards Empangeni along the R34 ran through the red light.
The trucker reportedly swerved to avoid a major collision, and instead clipped a VW Polo before losing control and driving down a grass embankment to where the pedestrian was walking.
The truck ploughed into him, trapping him beneath the front tyre.
