Chill out at the Zini Art in the Shade festival
Almost 50 leading artists have booked their stalls for the open air lifestyle event - a major Mtunzini Rotary fund-raising project to benefit the community
IF you’re looking for a fun day out next weekend, then the Mtunzini’s inaugural Art in the Shade festival will be the place to be on Saturday, 4 November.
Almost 50 leading artists have booked their stalls for the open air lifestyle event – a major Mtunzini Rotary fund-raising project to benefit the community.
Artists who will display their works include leading painters, sculptors and professional photographers such as acclaimed international photographer Alice van Kempen and Zululand creatives Shelley and Marian Mattinson (mixed media), photographer Theresa van der Vyver and artist Cathryn Paver.

Also in the mix, among others, are well known marble crafter Sarah Rheeders, painters Louise Dainty, Zelda Grobbelaar, Asoti Naidoo and Karlien Erasmus, Empangeni fantasy artist Donovon Smith and Hluhluwe’s master wood carver Sakhiwe Mthembu.
Apart from the obvious emphasis on professional visual and performing arts displays, complementary activities in tune with a ‘fine living and culinary excellence’ theme will ensure a good diversity of entertainment for the whole family.
These include an array of pop-up restaurants offering a good selection of gastronomic delights and a tea garden with sweet treat temptations.
Wine tasting and the customary beer tent will allow for chilling opportunities in the shade between all the art browsing and social interaction.

Festival goers will also be treated to a range of entertaining performances by musicians, Zulu dancers, mime artists, jugglers and the like, with a special focus on participation of the local community.
The Art in the Shade initiative has no commercial profit motive. All funds raised will be channelled to community upliftment projects as per the Mtunzini Rotary’s mission of serving society.
Entry is R20 per adult and R10 per school going child.
The gates will open at 9am.
