City Nigerians celebrate their country’s independence
The University of Zululand academic said most Nigerians work hard and legitimately, contributing to the socio-economic development of South Africa
THE President of the Association of Nigerians Residents in uMhlathuze, Professor Christopher Isike, says they are committed to not only meet the social and welfare need of its members, but to promote positive relations between Nigerians and South Africans in the district.
He voiced these sentiments at the 57th independence anniversary celebrations held at Empnageni’s Civic Centre on Saturday afternoon.
‘For those of us in South African these are challenging times. There is a negative perception about us at almost all levels of the South African society.
‘Unfortunately some Nigerians fuel this perception by their conduct. The activities of the few bad apples cast a bad light on all of us,’ Isike said.

‘The record shows, for example, that there is no hospital anywhere in the country where you won’t find qualified and diligent Nigerian doctors saving lives daily
‘Nigerians contribute significantly to the education sector and businessmen and -women teachers help create employment for mostly South Africans all over the country.’
uMhlathuze Deputy Mayor Silindile Mkhize congratulated Nigerians on their 57th independence celebrations.
‘We wish you all the best, especially those living with us here at uMhlathuze. We live in harmony as we believe all people from African countries are our brothers are sisters.’
