Brackenham suffers under crime wave

That is according to the Brackenham Community Crime Watch (BCCW) Chairperson Ray Govender, who confirmed that cases of theft of vehicles, vehicle accessories as well as house robberies were on the rise

RESIDENTS of Brackenham are grappling to come to terms with increasing incidents of crime.
That is according to the Brackenham Community Crime Watch (BCCW) Chairperson Ray Govender, who confirmed
that cases of theft of vehicles, vehicle accessories as well as house robberies were on the rise.
Govender said despite the patrolling efforts of the BCCW within the area, residents were still being targeted as there is a shortage of manpower, which prevents them covering all the streets.
‘Crime has spiraled out of control and incidents are reported on a daily basis.
‘We need more residents to join us in this fight against crime, our members cannot patrol the entire suburb and we
are encouraging residents to become proactive and establish neighbourhood watches in their streets.
‘In some incidents, our members are patrolling on the other side of the suburb when a crime is reported and it takes
some time to respond. ‘We want to assure the community that we are not chasing after criminals and their lives will not be in danger by joining the patrols.
‘We are merely creating visibility in the area with the patrols.
‘We have engaged in meetings with the Richards Bay SAPS to request more blue light patrols in our area and crime prevention,’ said Govender.
Meanwhile, Govender urged residents to report all crimes, no matter how small or insignificant, so police have a true
reflection of crime in Brackenham.
