Rioters block entrance to Mkhuze

DISGRUNTLED workers, believed to be employees at a local fast food outlet striking over a wage dispute, this morning’s (Friday) started rioting at the entrance to Mkhuze town, blocking the road with burning debris.
They took to the streets just before 6am, initially blocking the N2.
After being moved off by police officers, they took their activities to the entrances to both Mkhuze and Jozini.
Some reports state overturned vehicles were used as barricades, while other footage showed burning branches and other debris.
The ZO was unable to contact the food outlet in question to verify the reports.

According to a source, the workers want a wage increase, as well as other benefits.

The protest reportedly started on Saturday, but gained momentum this morning after their demands were not met.
Apparently Mkhuze community members not employed by the business, joined the strike in solidarity.
SAPS POP Unit is currently on scene, attempting to disperse the protesters.
