Ulundi waste site employees want intervention

They say they have brought this to Mayor Wilson Ntshangase's attention and requested his intervention, but nothing has been done

WOMEN working at the Ulundi waste site complain the municipality does not provide them with proper protective clothing.

They say they have brought this to Mayor Wilson Ntshangase’s attention and requested his intervention, but nothing has been done.

‘We need gloves for protection and masks to prevent us breathing in polluted air.

‘Those who can’t afford to buy gloves for themselves are forced to work with their bare hands,’ they said.

Fearing victimisation, they declined to reveal their names.

‘This is our only source of income, we don’t want to lose our jobs.’

One of them said she was already hospitalised owing to the toxic air she inhales. ‘But we don’t have a choice because we have children to support.’

However, Mayor Ntshangase refuted the claims and said any problems should be reported directly to their manager or supervisor.
