Clean-up campaign at eShowe taxi and bus rank
Illegal trading and unapproved shacks erected at the eShowe taxi and bus rank will soon be a thing of the past.
ILLEGAL trading and unapproved shacks erected at the eShowe taxi and bus rank will soon be a thing of the past.
So says the uMlalazi Municipality, on a mission to clean the town, restore public safety and combat crime in the area.
This week municipal officials from the Public Safety and Local Economic Development units identified structures to be demolished.
They were identified during a clean-up campaign last week.
‘The pop-up shacks are commonly used for illegal alcohol sales and drug dealings, which impacts on the safety in and around the rank,’ said Umlalazi Municipality Communications Manager, Mkhuseli ‘Chaos’ Buthelezi.

‘With the safety of commuters and traders a concern, we undertook a tour around the rank with the purpose of cleaning up the area.’
During the visit officials issued shack owners with notices to vacate the illegal structures.
‘We agreed to intervene and people who want to trade must contact our economic development office to register and obtain trading stalls the correct way,’ said Buthelezi.
