King Cetshwayo peacemakers to be honoured

King Cetshwayo District community members are expected to convene at the Empangeni Civic Centre to witness the honouring of heroes and heroines

COMMUNITY members from all over the King Cetshwayo District are expected to convene at the Empangeni Civic Centre to witness the honouring of heroes and heroines who worked tirelessly to bring peace and political stability to the region.

Event organiser Kwanele Mbatha said 15 community members who showed their patriotism during the political unrest between the 1980s and ’90s will be honoured at the first event on 25 October (6pm), with others to be honoured at a second event.

‘Nothing was done to value the efforts of these people. We are not talking about politicians, but ordinary people such as nurses , teachers, police officers, doctors, taxi drivers, church leaders, izinduna, amakhosi and businessmen who worked without fear to help the community during those difficult times.’

Mbatha said these peacemakers were serious about the well-being of the community without expecting any rewards.
‘We want to thank them for their invaluable contributions.’
