Justice is sometimes patient, but eventually served. This was the case when a rapist was sentenced to 18
years imprisonment in the Mtunzini Regional Court 10 years after the incident.
Bhekizenzo Mthembu (48) was sentenced for raping a then 14-year-old victim after offering her a lift home in June, 2007. The accused drove to a secluded area in the Ezihlabathini area and raped her, promising to give her cash afterwards.
She refused the money and he threatened to hurt her. The victim reported the incident to her father and a case of rape was opened at the Mtunzini police station.
