Helping educate our region’s underprivileged
Three schools in northern KZN each received a mobile library in celebration of World Literacy Day
COMMITTED to helping educate the disadvantaged youth of South Africa, through the promotion of literacy and the development of school infrastructure, Avbob chose this year’s World Literacy Day to change the lives of disadvantaged youngsters in northern KZN.
‘As Avbob, we want to play a part in educating our future leaders, because an educated mind is a strong mind that can open doors for learners,’ said CEO Frik Rademan.
He said that, while the company is there for people during one of the major transitions in their lives, the company’s commitment to the people of South Africa goes beyond this.
‘We have always believed that education provides emotional and intellectual upliftment for people, liberating them from the difficulties of daily life and providing them with hope for the future.’
With this in mind, the Avbob Foundation has, since 2013, donated 43 mobile libraries, each containing 2 500 books, to underprivileged schools. And this year was no different.
Uphaphazi Primary School in Mtubatuba, KwaMame Full Service Primary School in Ulundi and Siyaziqeqesha Primary School in Pongola last month each received their own mobile libraries.
The Avbob Foundation plans to take its literacy quest one step further next year as the company celebrates its 100th anniversary by teaming up with the Department of Basic Education to invest R150-million in the refurbishment and building of schools across the country.
