THE Paxton duo of William and Wylona proved too strong for the other 200 entrants in the popular annual Fish Eagle 1 000m swim held at the Empangeni town pool on Friday and on a wet and windy Saturday.
William bagged the Fastest Male award after completing his swim in 12.29.70, with Wylona picking up the Fastest Female award with a time of 14.18.00.
The action got underway on Friday morning with school teams competing in the relay part of the event.
This year saw Thuthukani Special School, St Catherine’s, Richards Bay Christian School (RBCS) and Richards Bay High School taking to the waters.

RBCS walked away with the primary school title with a speedy time of 14.45.50, with Richards Bay High School claiming the high school category with a time of 13.53.14.
The Richards Bay team also bagged the Overall Fastest Relay Team trophy, with RBCS taking the Most School Entries award home.
Little Ami van der Merwe (6) did not let the daunting task of completing 40x25m widths scare her off, being the youngest swimmer to complete the individual swim.

Proving that age is just a number was Poppet Nel (73) who was the oldest swimmer completing the swim with an amazing time of 23.30.65.
‘We would like to thank all our sponsors for their support,’ said Fish Eagles’ Erika du Plessis.
‘Security for the two days was sponsored by Fidelity Security Services, with the lane sponsors being Pambele Investments, Kloppers Incorporated, Zululand Observer, Hsec-on-line, ZULTAP Agricultural Enterprises, Saryx Engineering Group, Sonja Swim School and Kingfisher Swim School.
‘We would like to thank uMhlathuze Municipality for the use of the swimming pool and their staff. As usual the venue was spotless and in good condition.’
