ANC leaders lash out
Both Dlamini-Zuma and Zikalala lambasted ANC Secretary General Gwede Mantashe, accusing him showing signs of supporting current ANC Deputy President, Cyril Ramaphosa
THE African National Congress presidential hopeful Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma and KZN Provincial Chairperson, Sihle Zikalala jointly addressed a cadres’ forum at Empangeni Town Hall on Monday.
Both Dlamini-Zuma and Zikalala lambasted ANC Secretary General Gwede Mantashe, accusing him showing signs of supporting current ANC Deputy President, Cyril Ramaphosa.
Wearing ANC regalia, Dlamini-Zuma berated Mantashe for his Twitter statement where he allegedly said if ANC members don’t vote for Ramaphosa to be next ANC president they must give reasons why.
Dlamini-Zuma told the attendees that the ANC is guided by its policies and constitution, which make it clear that after every five-year term there must be a national conference where all the party policies are reviewed and amended and new leadership is elected.
‘Let us not make rules that are not guided by the constitution,’ said Dlamini-Zuma.
‘In that conference all positions became vacant; there are no positions reserved for any deputy, but if the delegates still need an individual to retain his or her position they re-elect him or her. In most cases division comes only when policies and constitution are not being followed,’ she said.
She also encouraged cadres to play a meaningful role in the community and encouraged the youth to a take education seriously, to gain skills and required expertise.
‘Our youth need to know their right and responsibilities, they also need to be patriotic because if they are not, who is going to defend this country?’
She added that as the ANC they support the call made by the youth for free education at all levels.‘Having skilled workers will help us to sustain and grow our economy. Currently the majority of people in this country are excluded and half of our population – mainly blacks – live in poverty.
‘We believe that Radical Economic Transformation is the correct programme to deal with poverty and inequality in our country,’ said Dlamini-Zuma.
