Record-breaking haulage for Transnet Freight Rail
The export coal line achieved its highest ever mid-year record

SEPTEMBER has been a record-breaking month for Transnet Freight Rail (TFR), with the export coal line to Richards Bay reaching an all-time high of 7 215 million tonnes (mt), in turn resulting in export coal achieving its highest ever mid-year record of 37 795 212mt.
‘This performance can be attributed to the collaborative efforts of all stakeholders and, given the unfavourable economic conditions, this is no mean feat,’ said TFR spokesperson Mike Asefovitz.
‘Transnet’s objectives include the improvement of operational efficiencies, productivity and customer service across the value chain, to ensure they are in line with industry standards and guarantee that Transnet is on its way to becoming one of the world’s largest freight logistics groups.’
Other TFR records broken this month include the NATCOR channel, which operates the railway line from Rietvlei to the Durban Harbour, which also bettered its monthly tonnage record, having railed a total of 1 305 167 tonnes compared to the previous best of 1 268 004 tonnes.
The Container and Automotive Business unit also achieved a record high for national twenty-foot equivalent units of 69 869.
