BREAKING: Baby found alive in pit toilet in eNseleni

The mother of the child is still at large and police are urging anyone with knowledge of her whereabouts to call 035 901 8533 or 0800 10111

A NEWBORN baby, believed to be less than a day old, was discovered by members of Empangeni SAPS Search and Rescue team this morning in a pit toilet in eNseleni.

At about 8:45am member of the public informed police they had heard the cries of a baby coming from an outdoor toilet near Myeni’s Cottages.

‘Our Search and Rescue team from Empangeni were called to attend.

‘On arrival, the pit toilet at Myeni’s Cottages was identified as the area from which the cries were coming.

‘Police began to dig around the area and a newborn baby girl was found alive.

‘She was rushed eNseleni Clinic for medical attention,’ said King Cetshwayo Cluster spokesperson, Captain Mbongeni Mdlalose.

According to the tenants the cry of the baby had been heard from around midnight.

A case of attempted murder has been opened and is being investigated by Empangeni Police.
