Charity on a plate for NPO’s

Engen fills up charities' cupboards

THREE Non-Profit Organisations benefited on Monday from the generosity of N2 Engen Garage Wimpy (northbound).

The welcome donations of cutlery will help them to better cater for the needy people they serve in their community.

Forecourt manager from the garage, Junior Madide said the donation is part of their commitment of giving back to the communities who have shown great support to their business.

‘This is not our first donation. We do this often and we support the NGOs that help the needy community, as we know that it is the local community who support our business by buying fuel and food at our shops.

‘We are led by generous Director Alvy Murray and Acting General Manager, Saayman Grobler who have the interest of the community at heart, which is why we regularly donate to the NPOs so that they can do their job with fewer challenges.

‘We know this is not enough but it will go a long way in helping them,’ said Madide.

Linda de Lange, General Manger from Zululand Homes for the Aged said they were very excited about the donation.

‘At a moment we have about 60 senior citizens at our home, and since we don’t get government subsidies we cannot afford to replace broken crockery,’ she said.

This was echoed by Sister Priscilla Dlamini from Holy Cross Hospice in Gingindlovu, who said their NPO mainly depends on the generosity of the community’s businessmen, churches and individuals.

‘We cater for sick people and we don’t have any source of income so these kinds of donation will go a long way in helping us to serve the community with dignity.

‘We also look after various child-headed families in the area and we have caregivers who visit the sick at their homes, so this will help us a lot,’ said Dlamini.

A coordinator from Guardian Angels, Sheelagh Fosse said they will use their newly donated cutlery when serving tea to the senior citizens.

‘We at Guardian Angels serve senior citizens with tea and coffee and entertain them and help them to move around; we always met every Tuesday and they play various games.

‘We also help them to be mobile by providing them with transport when they need to get to places,’ said Fosse.
