IT is in times of hardship and loss that the eShowe community truly comes together to assist those in need.
The devastating fire in Brockwell Street on Friday evening is a typical example.
Angela Redinger’s house was totally gutted despite the efforts of all who rallied to help.
She had left earlier in the day to spend her weekend in KwaMbonambi and was unaware of the drama unfolding at her house.
The wooden structure caught alight around 9pm and the alarm was raised by Ronald Sutherland, on whose property the house was situated.
The uMlalazi Protection Service’s fire tenders were all on call in the surrounding rural areas and a fire tender was dispatched from Gingindlovu.
Local farmers, Mark Prentis of Robert Farming, Donald Saint and Cameron Steenberg all responded and managed to keep the blaze from reaching the garage and main house.
Kim Dellis and Tanya Byrne sprang into action using their network of friends to mobilise assistance.
Unfortunately, all efforts to save the house and its contents were unsuccessful.
The Sutherland and Redinger families thank all who assisted on the evening and those who have offered help as Angela rebuilds her life.
