Ingwavuma clinic fight has patients scurrying away

The Department of Health has warned all its employees that those guilty of assault will be disciplined and risk expulsion from work

THE Department of Health has warned all its employees that those guilty of assault will be disciplined and risk expulsion from work.

This warning follows a fist fight that broke out between two public servants working at the Gateway Clinic in Ingwavuma last Tuesday morning.

It is alleged the altercation was sparked by a heated argument between two senior employees at the clinic, with one eventually strangling the other on the floor.

‘The incident occurred in front of the patients waiting for treatment,’ said a source.

‘Patients had to leave and personnel stopped work,’ the source said.

Clinic Sister Noonkulukelo Makhaza declined to speak to the media about the incident.

According to the source, both parties have opened cases of assault against each other at the local police station.

Spokesman for the Department of Health, Sam Mkhwanazi, said there was no fighting, but rather a quarrel.

‘The department would like emphasise that health employees are at all times expected to behave in a manner that does not tarnish the profession’s reputation, failing which stern action will betaken.’
