Biyela was convicted of raping his 12-year-old neighbour
A MAN convicted of raping his 12-year-old neighbour will spend the rest of his life behind bars.
Xolani Biyela (36) was found guilty of repeatedly raping the girl and sentenced to life imprisonment in the Ulundi Regional Court last Thursday.
The court heard that in April last year the victim had visited her friends and when she was walking home she was called by the accused into his home.
Biyela dragged her to his bedroom, where he repeatedly raped her.
The court also heard that immediately after the attack, Biyela threatened to hire hitmen to kill her if she ever told anyone about the incident.
However, she bravely reported the matter to her parents, who immediately called the police.
