Traditional leaders elect their new Executive Committees

NORTHERN KZN traditional leaders convened for the election of their respective Executive Committees of the Houses of Traditional Leaders on Tuesday.
Elections were held in the Zululand, King Cetshwayo, uMkhanyakude, uThukela, Amajuba and uMzinyathi districts.
Ilembe district is still to hold its elections, but a date is still to be confirmed.
KZN MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta), Nomusa Dube-Ncube, congratulated the amakhosi who completed the election process.
‘These elections are a reflection of democracy being alive and thriving within the institution of traditional leadership in our province.
‘We are where we are today as a province because of the great work done by the amakhosi, who are the custodians of our culture and traditions.
‘They also serve as peacemakers and mediators in disputes within our communities, especially those in rural areas,’ said Dube-Ncube.
The term of office of the current Houses of Traditional Leaders in the province began in 2012 in line with the provisions of the Traditional Leadership and Governance Act 2005.
Read with the applicable national legislation, it provides for the alignment of terms of the local and provincial Houses of Traditional Leaders with that of the National House of Traditional Leaders.
‘In the coming weeks, we will be convening the Provincial House of Traditional Leaders where a new chairperson will be elected.
‘As a province, we take pride in knowing that the calibre of amakhosi who serve our communities is very high,’ said Dube-Ncube.
The various amakhosi elected as chairpersons are Inkosi Langelihle David Ntshangase (Zululand), Inkosi Zwelinzima Thwalizwe Gumede (uMkhanyakude), Inkosi Hlanganani Cameron Biyela (King Cetshwayo), Inkosi Cosmos Sawela Kubheka (Amajuba), Inkosi Ngqayizivela Sipho Wiseman Sithole (uThukela) and Inkosi Mbangomuni Petros Mbhekeni Mazibuko (uMzinyathi).
