eSikhaleni road a hazard say residents
Passengers escaped Wednesday morning accident with minor scratches
MOTORISTS and schoolchildren escaped with minor injuries in an accident at eSikhaleni’s main traffic lights on Wednesday morning.
The early rush to work and schools was temporary delayed when victims had to be treated at the scene by medical professional opposite the township’s shopping centre.
Police, firefighters and an ambulance service were called to the scene just before 7am.
Details of the accident are still vague, but eSikhawini police confirmed no serious injuries were reported.
The accident was followed by a flood of comments from the public who are still patiently waiting since 2015 for the expansion of the road.
‘We were told the road would be expanded and the entrance point to the township lengthened. There is a great need for this to be put to action,’ said eSikhaleni resident Mandla Thabethe.
Some residents also voiced their concern about the narrow road, saying it causes major traffic congestion in the mornings and during peak hours in the afternoon..
‘Just driving into the township from the N2 now takes me more than 30 minutes to an hour. There are too many cars entering and exiting the township.
‘Traffic is always a nightmare and we are waiting for this extension because it will free the traffic congestion,’ said motorist Nozipho Sibiya.
