Multi-purpose centre in dire need
The foundation says it is in desperate need of cement, bricks and other building equipment to keep the construction of the youth training centre moving
NON-profit organisation Beautiful Pillars Foundation says the construction of the multi-purpose centre in Mandlazini has been moving at a slow pace owing to the lack of building materials.
The foundation says it is in desperate need of cement, bricks and other building equipment to keep the construction of the youth training centre moving.
‘We began building the centre last month, purchasing building materials with donations received from the Richards Bay Industrial Development Zone. We have been pulling funds together to be able to pay the construction workers, but it is a struggle.
‘We are already experiencing financial constraints and we have only just started the building process, and there’s still a long way to go.
‘That is why we need help from the community and local companies to be able complete this centre, which will be beneficial for the community, particularly for the youth,’ said the founder of Beautiful Pillars Foundation, Nonhlanhla Ngonyama.
Ngonyama said any help will be beneficial, whether it’s ‘funding, some building material or help with construction, in order to get this building up’.
Once complete, the multi-purpose centre will have a youth training centre, which will provide skills development to the youth of Mandlazini and uMhlathuze at large and will also have an orphanage and child care facility.
‘We had skills development programmes in the community but had no facility to be able to equip the youth in the right way. We have seen many of the youth is unemployed at they sit at home and some of them end up having children,’ said Ngonyama.
‘So the centre will also have a child care facility, which will allow the young people to participate in the skills development programme while their children are being taken care of,’ she said.
