To beard or not to beard?

Jo Black has lost his beard – and Facebook can’t handle it.

Taking part in Jacarda FM’s ‘Big Beard Challenge’, Afrikaans singer Jo Black – possibly more famous for his gigantic beard than his music – lost his beard on Friday.

Revealing a handsome George Clooney look-alike face underneath all that facial hair, most of the ladies were absolutely delighted about the end result.

However, a lot of men – and, surprisingly, women too – reacted in horror.

Comments on Jacarda FM’s Facebook page included the words ‘cruel’, ‘unfair’, ‘trademark’ and ‘sad day’.

What is it with all these beards? Are we back in the 1880s?

It is unclear why and how the ‘Paul Kruger’ look became fashionable about two years ago, but today you get whole websites dedicated to facial hair (e.h. beardstyle.net), and grooming products especially made for beards.

So, has Jo started a new trend? Will men be following suit, shaving their beards?
