Unizulu women celebrate being bold

WOMEN from the University of Zululand celebrated being bold at the Umfolozi Casino Resort in Empangeni recently.
Dressed in black and bling, they celebrated Women’s Month under the theme ‘Being bold for Change’.
The university’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Xoliswa Mtose, who recorded a message of support, said the concept of being bold for change fits the ‘change we are working towards, as we build a more inclusive gender equal world’.
‘I want to encourage each and every one of you to know you are important and are the cornerstone of the change we are becoming. You must take up your positions as women,’ Mtose said.
Director in the office of the Vice Chancellor’s office, Dr Y Rygbeer said violence against women and children remains one of the biggest violations of human rights.

Dr Rygbeer paid tribute to Unizulu law degree student, Lethukuthula Ngobese whose body was found with multiple stab wounds.
She further mentioned Mbali Gumede, another student at Unizulu who was last seen in June on her way to the university to collect her graduation documents.
Dr Rygbeer said there’s a need for an extensive dialogue on gender based violence.
‘Each and every one of us can play a role in ending this scourge. If we want to bring hope to women and children, then change is everybody’s business,’ Dr Rygbeer said.
