Obituary: Dirk Rezelman – January 1937 – July 2017

Sad passing of newspaper man

THE professional works of Dirk Rezelman of Mtunzini, who passed away last week following an illness, would warrant reams of paper.

Past president of the Public Relations Institute of SA PRISA (KZN) and member of the PRISA National Council, the lawyer-turned wordsmith touched many lives while on his political and print adventures throughout the country.

He edited several publications nationally and internationally, including historical works, magazines, newspapers, circulars and educational manuscripts.

His works saw him based in the Cape, Gauteng, Port Elizabeth, KZN, New York (where he was appointed Editor of Publications for the Information Services) and Zululand (as Director of Public Relations at Unizulu).

He was a valued member of staff at the Zululand Observer for several years in varying capacities including training, sub-editor, writer, and contributing columnist.

‘Dirk was a highly-respected member of the community and will be fondly remembered for his incredible knowledge of history and politics,’ said Zululand Observer Editor, Dave Savides.

‘We will remember his incredibly descriptive stories and passion for the printed word for many, many years,’ he said.
